About the event

Following the Tennessee bishops' statement on immigration enforcement and the dignity of migrants, and the U.S. bishops' special message on immigration, the Diocese of Knoxville will host a regional gathering on the Church's response to migration on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus (711 Northshore Drive, Knoxville, TN, 37919).

This regional gathering serves the dioceses in Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, West Virginia, and Virginia.

The day will include training and essential information on Catholic social teaching on migration, solidarity with immigrant communities in a time of mass deportations, communication strategies, and diocesan and parish planning. Bishop Mark Beckman will celebrate the noon Mass.

We particularly invite Catholic Charities (workers and volunteers), parish leadership, leaders of social ministries, Catholic healthcare, Catholic education, communications teams, and Hispanic and multicultural ministries to participate.

Registration is $25 and includes breakfast and lunch. (If financial support is needed, please contact Monica Andrews mandrews@hopeborder.org)

Sponsored by: Diocese of Knoxville and the Diocese of Lexington, in collaboration with the Hope Border Institute and the Center for Migration Studies of New York
