About the event

On Tuesday, September 29, 2026, from 1:00–2:00 pm ET, join the Center for Migration Studies of New York (CMS) and the Hope Border Institute (HOPE) for “The Impact of Mass Deportations on Children and Families,” a webinar presented by the Catholic Immigrant Prophetic Action Project (Catholic IMMpact) in observance of the World Day of Migrants and Refugees.

This year, Pope Leo XIV has chosen “Even just one of these children” as the theme for the World Day of Migrants and Refugees, drawing attention to the experiences and needs of migrant children around the world. In recognition of this theme, experts will examine how the mass deportation campaign in the United States is affecting children and families and discuss ways the Catholic community can accompany and support those facing separation, uncertainty, and other hardships during this difficult period.

Most Reverend Michael Pham, Bishop of San Diego Opening Remarks

The conversation will be moderated by J. Kevin Appleby, Senior Fellow for Policy and Communications at the Center for Migration Studies. Additional speakers to be announced.

Catholic IMMpact has created a resource guide for dioceses, parishes and communities preparing to host and organize events and support to our migrant communities. For more resources, visit catholicimmpact.org/resources.
